Eighteen years ago we chose to support the organic farming industry with our shopping dollars. We have been, I would say, about 95% faithful. We’ve seen huge shifts in availability and quality over the past two decades. Of note, we have also witnessed a huge shift in price. On this organic journey, we have also had the opportunity to have some great discussions and experiments with food sweeteners. How much honey vs. liquid is necessary to offset the white sugar requirement is not an exact science. Upon further research we discovered bee pollen which contains every known vitamin and amino acid.
And also Royal jelly, the food fed to the queen bee. You can find the pollen in most health food stores. I personally can attest that this will help you get over hayfever, but must be used preventatively. Meaning, find local pollen, and start taking small doses in the winter. I tried royal jelly, but it was way to expensive for my taste. Both did seem to give me energy. Honey, however, always tastes great. There is clover, fireweed, blackberry etc. Some of the small beekeeper types sold at Saturday markets will knock your socks off. It may be a little more expensive, but it is worth every penny.
We’ve all probably seen those white/faded wood box beehives standing at the edges of farms and orchards. Their origination was canonized In 1853 by Rev. L.L. Langstroth who published a book called The Hive and the Honeybee. These hives are now known as “langstroth” hives. You see, bees need to fly over 55,000 miles and visit over 2 million flowers just to make 1 pound of honey. The hives of yesteryear were the equivalent of a big open space. Some made from clay, some straw, and some a hollowed out log or stump. The langstroth hive tries to modify certain aspects of a honeybee’s habitat to make for an easier and more profitable harvest.

I’m excited to be finally posting online after all these years. There really is no mystery about it, is there? I just dropped by your blog and had to write. I’m a recent college grad, journalism major if you must know, and I absolutely love photography. I’ve got my website up but it’s nothing to brag about yet. None of my stuff’s been posted. Can I make a suggestion? I think youve bought something good here. But what should you added a pair links to a page that backs up what youre saying? Or possibly you would give us one thing to look at, something that would join what youre saying to something tangible? Only a suggestion.
