Intro
The Areca Palm can be found in a house or office and is the most pop;ular palm plant grown indoors. When full grown it can be a few meters high. When first growing it does well in a small pot but as it matures and grows taller it’s best to transfer it into a much larger indoor tree size pot or container. The Areca palm comes from the palm tree family and is non toxic to pets or humans. There are three other name this plant goes by note: AKA yellow butterfly palm, bamboo palm and golden cane palm.
Caring for your Areca Palm
Sunlight
First give it some thought of where to place your palm. This is because it will reach a tall height when fully grown. All living spaces are wonderful for this plant. When it’s starting out in a small pot a bathroom or bedroom is a good place for this plant. As it grows and needs to be planted in a 5 gallon pot make sure your entry, living, family, or dining room can accommodate their height. The best indoor locations to place these plants are near west or south-facing windows or under a skylight. Although they prefer bright, unfiltered sunlight they can tolerate full direct sunlight very well but protect them from a strong direct afternoon sun to prevent any scorching of their leaves.
Watering
Your palm needs to be water between every 1-2 weeks. Keep it planted in a good potting soil mix with adding peat moss. This can help it by keeping from becoming waterlogged. Some gardeners like to add sand to their soil to help keep the soil to help with a well draining compost mixture. Palm plants don’t like their roots in water, dropping leaves can be a result of watering your palm too much and too often. Rich and acidic soils are great for your palm to flourish with. Tip- a lot of Palm trees are grown in California, Hawaii, Florida etc. these trees are use to a coastal misty breeze on a regular basis. Try misting your tree with a spray bottle filled with water at the base of the plant. A good spray bottle is a small wise investment because this can come in handy for just a touch of watering for many indoor plants.
Conclusion
Areca Palm plants can help absorb indoor air pollutants like Acetone,Xylene,Toluene and Formaldehyde which emitted from petroleum products, paints and wooden furnishings. This plant also emits fresh oxygen even during the night which can improve a home or an office air quality. Bringing a little bit of oceanfront indoor palms is really a nice touch to any home, office or decor.
